Mika Häkkinen guest driver in Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3

Formula One double champion Mika Häkkinen will compete in the 6-hour race at Zhuhai on 13 November 2011 in a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3.

For the first time in four years, former Formula One and DTM driver Mika Häkkinen will climb into the cockpit of a racing car for the season finale of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup on 13th November in Zhuhai (China). Häkkinen will be driving a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 for the six-hour race along with 2010 Mercedes-Benz DTM driver CongFu Cheng and Lance David Arnold of Germany. The Finn is making an appearance in his capacity as a Mercedes-Benz brand ambassador and this will be the first time the gullwing SLS has raced in China. The car has been entered by an independent team, Customer AMG Sports Team China.

Zandvoort – Pole position for Bruno Spengler

Second pole of the season for Bruno Spengler.

Mercedes-Benz driver Bruno Spengler (Mercedes-Benz Bank AMG C-Class) will start the second race of the 2011 DTM season from pole position on Sunday. The race starts at 14:00 CET and will be shown live on the German channel ARD (available via Astra and Eutelsat). Spengler, victor of the season opener at Hockenheim, posted a lap time of 1:31.805 minutes during the top four shoot-out at the end of qualifying. It is the ninth pole of his DTM career and the fourth for Mercedes-Benz at the Zandvoort circuit. Furthermore, this will be the 107th time in DTM history that a Mercedes-Benz driver has started from pole position.

A successful weekend for Mercedes-Benz: In addition to the hat trick for Bruno Spengler at Hockenheim (pole position, race win and fastest lap of the race), all three victories in the Formula 3 Euro Series went to drivers of Mercedes-Benz powered cars – two to Roberto Merhi and one to Daniel Juncadella. To cap it, the SLS AMG GT3 won the VLN (German endurance championship) race at the Nürburgring.

Bruno Spengler (Mercedes-Benz Bank AMG C-Class) will start the first race of the 2011 DTM season in Hockenheim on Sunday from pole position. (Start: 13:00 BST, broadcast live on ARD TV commencing at 12:45 BST). Bruno set a time of 1:34.270 on the final lap of single-lap qualifying. This is his eighth DTM pole and his second at Hockenheim since the start of the 2007 season. For the 106th time in DTM, a Mercedes-Benz driver is on pole position. In the first single-lap qualifying of the season Ralf Schumacher (Salzgitter AMG Mercedes C-Class), set a time of 1:34.577, which placed him third, and he will start from the second row of the grid.

The two former Formula One drivers David Coulthard and Ralf Schumacher will once again be racing the AMG Mercedes C-Class for the 2011 season. They are the best-known members of the DTM Mercedes-Benz teams. Both drivers each have more than twenty years’ motor racing experience, and from a joint total of 426 Grand Prix starts they secured 19 Formula One wins between them. David Coulthard and Ralf Schumacher have quickly become fan-favourites in the DTM.
